Thinking of old times...

Back when I was about 7 or 8, I remember having a great idea of bringing candy to school and selling it to the fellow kiddos. Back then I didn't have much greed, so I had the candy marketed just a few cents more then it would be to buy them at the store, I'd make a small 1 or 2 percent so I could buy even more candy and keep growing.

Looking back at that, I'm surprised at the business sense I had even as a 7 year old (considering the family and area I was in, most were surprised I could do basic Algebra, much less start a mini business)

A few days later a different kiddo brought in the same candy I was dealing out and marketed it at wholesale price. Also another kiddo was starting up using a different candy, also using market price. My thoughts weren't to the fact they were stealing my business, it was cool that other kiddos were doing what I was... also to mention that I started this trend which was cool on its own... but my wonder was how long they would last. I kept selling the same candy at the same 2 cent increase and when asked why I wasn't going down in price like the other two (who were now starting a 'I'll under-sell ye, even going into under wholesale price') I just shrugged and commented on how they would run out of money eventually.

The eventually came about pretty quickly.

About two days after that the two boyos were now broke and unable to sell candy anymore. I went to both of them and said they could sell for me, using my price and I would give them a small cut from the sale of a certain amount (it was like 5 cents for every 20 they sold, so about 12.5 percent of my profit, or 25% between the two boyos).

This lasted the rest of the school year, the two working hard with myself to sell candy to under-hyped kiddos (or those that parents wouldn't buy them candy) and it wasn't until I was told by my teacher that I couldn't sell candy anymore that I stopped. Something about hyper-active kiddos being a distraction and disruption...

Fun little story I wanted to share ;)
